At Medco, we are committed to a diverse work environment. Our goal is to hire the best people; foster a work environment that allows them to achieve their full potential; support them through training and job flexibility; and treat everyone with dignity and respect. Together we are building an environment that expands our thinking; challenges for all to reach new levels; and values our ideas, creativity and individuality.
Karin, senior vice president of human resources, joined Medco in May 2001. As the organization's diversity champion, Karin is focused on the creation of strategies that support Medco's diversity mission.
Karin brings to Medco more than 25 years of experience in global human resources management. She joined Medco from TradeOut.com, a leading on-line business-to-business surplus marketplace, where she built and managed the HR function for a growing Internet start-up. Karin also has held key HR leadership positions at Citigroup, Frito-Lay and Kaiser Aluminum Chemical Corporation.
"While Medco has been a publicly held company for only a short while, our organization's commitment to diversity is long-standing. It's important that our workforce mirror the diversity of our clients and their members so that we can better understand and serve their needs. The unique perspectives that our employees bring to work each day enable creative and innovative solutions for our company and for our clients."
Medco has a number of networks/associations available to employees to provide them with a forum to interact with colleagues, discuss issues and learn from others within the organization. These organizations include:
Women Unlimited - For more than ten years Medco has been an active sponsor of Women Unlimited, an external national program that supports the development of high-potential women leaders. Each year, between 12-16 women across the organization participate in monthly learning sessions and in mentorship relations with external business people.
Women Unlimited Alumnae Network - This organization was started by Women Unlimited "graduates" to give back to the broader female Medco population. Begun as a grassroots organization, it now includes officers and executive sponsorship. A steering committee of senior leadership works closely with the network to support its goals of building leadership skills to a broader female population. The network hosts several events a year, open to all Medco women, to promote business growth and leadership development.
Diversity Mentoring Program - Medco has a formal process focused on developing women and minority employees' leadership abilities and business knowledge. Through a structured group mentoring experience and a series of development workshops over a nine-month period, participants gain exposure to senior leaders while further developing their leadership skills. To date, over 79 employees have participated in this program.
